PDB: Can you pitch METAPHORS OF DEATH in 25 words or less?
Derailed British journalist writer gets involved in battle between BBC and corrupt Thai Police. The cathartic adventure makes him find his goal in life.
PDB: Which music, books, films or television shows have floated your boat recently?
Music: Plan B, book: Angry Birds, film: Wild at Heart (3rd View), I don’t watch television.
PDB: Is it possible for a writer to be an objective reader?
No, I’m reading to learn. When the writing doesn’t make me jealous I stop reading the book.
PDB: Do you have any interest in writing for films, theatre or television?
No, I’ve been an ad-man and am through creating wearing a straitjacket. I wan’t to make all the creative decisions now.
PDB: How much research goes into each book?
I love to research but piling up details can be a danger to the story. I usually start with a researched ‘rough thread’ and research more when the story needs it.
PDB: How useful or important are social media for you as a writer?
Very important. I have a dedicated Facebook page for writer-friends. I’m also active on Twitter, Behance, Pinterest, Google+ because these media bring me positive inspiration and excitement. Years ago I decided to avoid ‘daily news’ and focus on art and science news. That was a good choice, I’m more relaxed and happier than when I still followed ‘news’.
PDB: What’s on the cards for 2014?
Hopefully our return to Chiang Mai, I really miss being there. Then possibly an adventure in publishing. Start writing a new novel, if things go well for Metaphors of Death, maybe a sequel with the same protagonist.
