Derailed British journalist writer gets involved in battle between BBC and corrupt Thai Police. The cathartic adventure makes him find his goal in life.

PDB: Which music, books, films or television shows have floated your boat recently?

Music: Plan B, book: Angry Birds, film: Wild at Heart (3rd View), I don’t watch television.

PDB: Is it possible for a writer to be an objective reader?

No, I’m reading to learn. When the writing doesn’t make me jealous I stop reading the book.

PDB: Do you have any interest in writing for films, theatre or television?

No, I’ve been an ad-man and am through creating wearing a straitjacket. I wan’t to make all the creative decisions now.

PDB: How much research goes into each book?

I love to research but piling up details can be a danger to the story. I usually start with a researched ‘rough thread’ and research more when the story needs it.

PDB: How useful or important are social media for you as a writer?

Dick 2 (600 SQ)Very important. I have a dedicated Facebook page for writer-friends. I’m also active on Twitter, Behance, Pinterest, Google+ because these media bring me positive inspiration and excitement. Years ago I decided to avoid ‘daily news’ and focus on art and science news. That was a good choice, I’m more relaxed and happier than when I still followed ‘news’.

PDB: What’s on the cards for 2014?

Hopefully our return to Chiang Mai, I really miss being there. Then possibly an adventure in publishing. Start writing a new novel, if things go well for Metaphors of Death, maybe a sequel with the same protagonist.
